Welcome to a new school year! My name is Suzanne Schaefer and I am excited to be your child’s third grade teacher. I am looking forward to a fun and productive school year. Please take a moment to review some information that you may find helpful.
Attendance If your child is absent from school you need to send a written note the next day explaining why your child was absent. Even if you call the office to inform them of the absence, you MUST still send a note to the teacher so the absence can be marked as “Excused”. If you do not send a note, your child will be marked “Unexcused” or “Truant”. Family vacations are not considered excused absences.
Nightly homework will involve twenty minutes of silent reading recorded in a reading log, At times there may be homework for long-term projects worked on in the classroom. Mostly, I want my students to go home to refresh and have fun.
Every Friday for the first quarter your child will bring home a Friday Folder which will contain graded tests/papers from throughout the week. Take the papers out, discuss them with your child, and sign the front of the folder before returning it on Monday. Also, students have the option to correct any tests with low scores to receive extra points and help raise their grades. After the second quarter I will send home work every other Friday.
Keep In Touch
You are invited to be a partner in your child’s education. Ask your child what he or she is studying. Look through the Friday Folder over the weekend. If you have questions or concerns, you can write a note or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. I will try to respond within 24 hours. You may also request a conference with me before or after school. Also, please check my classroom website for the latest updates at http://schaefer321.weebly.com. My website will be up and running in the next few days.
I hope to meet you at Curriculum Night, Sept. 27th from 5:00 – 7:00. Come and learn what third grade is all about! I will be discussing the Third Grade Curriculum in detail, as well as important testing information. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Together we can make this a great year for your child!
