Welcome to a new school year! My name is Suzanne Schaefer and I am excited to be your child’s third grade teacher. I am looking forward to a fun and productive school year. Please take a moment to review some information that you may find helpful.
Attendance If your child is absent from school you need to send a written note the next day explaining why your child was absent. Even if you call the office to inform them of the absence, you MUST still send a note to the teacher so the absence can be marked as “Excused”. If you do not send a note, your child will be marked “Unexcused” or “Truant”. Family vacations are not considered excused absences.
Homework Homework will be assigned and checked in on a daily basis. Please check the agenda each day and initial after the homework is complete. Nightly homework will involve twenty minutes of silent reading recorded in a reading log and generally some math practice. It is very important to review the assigned work with your child and to sign the agenda and reading log nightly.
Every Friday for the first quarter your child will bring home a Friday Folder which will contain graded tests/papers from throughout the week. Take the papers out, discuss them with your child, and sign the front of the folder before returning it on Monday. Also, students have the option to correct any tests with low scores to receive extra points and help raise their grades. After the second quarter I will send home work every other Friday.
Keep In Touch You are invited to be a partner in your child’s education. Ask your child what he or she is studying. Check the agenda book each night and empty the Friday Folder over the weekend. If you have questions or concerns, you can write a note or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. I will try to respond within 24 hours. You may also request a conference with me before or after school. Also, please check my classroom website for the latest updates at http://schaefer321.weebly.com
